Droupadi Murmu is an Indian politician who has been serving as the President of India since 2022. Born on 20 June 1958, she became the first person from a tribal community and the second woman to hold the country’s highest constitutional office. Before becoming President, Murmu served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. She was also a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Rairangpur constituency (2000–2009) and served as a Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Odisha Government (2000–2004). Before entering politics, she worked in the State Irrigation and Power Department and later served as a teacher in Rairangpur. Her journey from public service roles to the presidency has made her one of India’s notable political figures.
